Frequently Asked Questions

How many years have you been a therapist? How many years were you a school counselor for?

I began seeing clients in 2022, part-time while working full-time as a school counselor. 5 years.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes! I currently accept private pay, Cigna, Aetna, Humana, Florida Blue, United Healthcare, Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Ambetter and Carelon.

What can I anticipate for a consultation call?

For about 10-15 minutes, we’ll discuss what brings you to therapy and how long you’ve been experiencing it. I’ll explain my approach and answer any questions. If it feels like a good fit, I’ll share the next steps for scheduling your initial session.

How long is a session and how often will I see you?

Sessions are usually 53 minutes on a weekly basis, especially at the start. This may change based on your needs. Weekly sessions help keep you motivated and focused on your goals. As therapy progresses, we can adjust the frequency to best support your growth and maintain positive change.

Why can't my friend/family who is a licensed counselor be my therapist?

Therapists cannot counsel friends or family due to the potential lack of impartiality. If we have an outside relationship, I cannot be your therapist, as this creates an unethical dual relationship.

What is the difference between seeing a therapist, a psychologist, and a psychiatrist?

Mental health therapists provide talk therapy, holding a master’s degree and ongoing education. Psychologists offer counseling and psychological testing for schools, courts, etc. Psychiatrists focus more on medication management, with limited therapy. If medication is needed, your therapist will refer you to a doctor. Medication is not a substitute for talk therapy.

Is therapy confidential?

Your therapist is required to keep everything shared in sessions confidential, similar to a doctor’s obligation to protect your records. However, there are exceptions for safety reasons, typically concerning the well-being of the patient or others in their life.

These exceptions include:

  • Suspected abuse.

  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person.

  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself.

  • By using insurance, the client allows their insurance company to access confidential information

My telehealth platform ensures that your privacy and confidentiality are protected in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Why Would I Speak to a Therapist instead of a Friend?

Friends are great for support, but they shouldn’t be your only source, especially with mental health concerns. A therapist offers professional training, unbiased guidance, clear boundaries, and a focus on you and your feelings.

How Do I Know When to See a Therapist?

Life has its ups and downs. It's normal to feel low one day and better the next. But if your feelings become overwhelming or impact daily life, it may be time to see a therapist.

Can I Do Therapy Online?

Yes, online therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions for treating issues like anxiety and depression. At Mindfully Me Therapy, we offer online therapy to clients across Florida. It’s a great option if you prefer the convenience and privacy of therapy from home, without the need for a commute.
